Shingleback Wine Cellar Door

Shingleback Wine Cellar Door

3 Stump Hill Rd, McLaren Vale SA 5171

Shingleback is a single-estate, family-owned winery that controls all of the aspects of its winemaking process, from growing the fruit on its McLaren Vale vineyard, to the bottling of its wines.

Combining the love of winemaking, farming and business, brothers Kym and John Davey collaborated to develop the estate that was first farmed by their grandfather in 1997. Today, the estate has grown to produce some of the most prestigious wines in McLaren Vale, and has been awarded a 5-star winery rating by James Halliday for many years.

Housed in the original barn of the Aldersey Farm (circa 1890), visiting the tasting room is a rewarding experience for wine and history lovers alike. In winter, guests are encouraged to enjoy a glass of wine, while indulging in a personally selected regional platter by the fire. In Summer, the South Australian sunshine can be savoured either under the shade of the verandah or on the lawn, as visitors take in the surrounding views of the wineries Mataro vineyard. The knowledgeable and friendly team is always on-hand to offer tastings of current-release wines, as well as tasting room exclusives.

Awesome winery, beautiful wines with a top notch cellar door. We turned up yesterday on our bikes 5 minutes before a group arrived. Our host did an excellent job serving us as well as catering to the group, plus a lovely plate of home made cheese, crackers and olives. Good work 🙂

We stopped here on a tour of the McLaren Vale region. Hannah was our host at this venue and she was very personable and helpful.

Location: the cellar door was inviting and had a beautiful rustic appeal with both indoor and outdoor seating. The toilets are in a seperate building but that allows a little walk around the property to appreciate it.

Wine: the wine was fantastic and tasted good. The knowledge passed on from Hannah regarding the efforts and ingredients into the wine made us appreciate it even more. It is because of this a purchase was made.

Food: the option to purchase a platter was available and this platter was well designed and was a great addition to the wine tasting
