I held my 50th birthday party at Heidrun Estate a couple of weekends ago on 12/2/22. We had it as a private function and so had the whole venue to ourselves for a group of just under 45 people. I cannot fault the venue at all, the day was perfect.
It is such a lovely private setting being a small boutique winery, set back a little and hidden from the road in a little cottage setting. It has gorgeous views overlooking vineyards and surrounded by trees and hills in the distance, and has a few different areas for groups to hang out in the gardens, or inside, or on the verandah. The outdoor areas include lawns, a fire pit area (though not required, as my function was in fire ban season on a glorious 31 degree day), a swing, and two different 'birdcages' for people to sit in, which are quite unique and photo-worthy. It really is such a gorgeous venue.
The venue is mostly wheelchair accessible and has an accessible toilet - which was a requirement, although there is loose gravel for some of the outdoor space, so might not be suitable for all wheelchairs, but we managed as the guest had a motorised chair, so no real drama.
Alicia, Emily and Amy were lovely to deal with, and accommodating and patient in the lead up to the event with all the email questions going back and forth, and on the day all the staff were so friendly bringing the food and drinks around to everyone, and seemed to be enjoying the day too. The drinks package is reasonably priced and there are several options for the food package, also at a great value for the quality of food they serve (and they can accommodate vegetarian/vegan options which was required for my group). They were able to accommodate a beer choice as well as their wines, which was handy as not all guests were wine drinkers - but those that did drink wine, thoroughly enjoyed the wine options on offer.
I heard so many comments from guests on the day saying lovely the venue itself was, and how delicious the food was - it was a definite hit. I would definitely recommend the venue if you're thinking of having a private function in McLaren Vale - or even if you're just looking for somewhere to do a tasting and spend a few hours at.
