The General Wine Bar, home of Zonte's Footstep, is a lively local hangout where we love to join forces with well-known local businesses while supporting initiatives that both empower and help individuals and communities.

Built in 2016, The General is a tribute to the original McLaren Flat General Store and Post Office in the late 1800s. It was built in place of the telegraph room that operated through the early 1900s.

Book a tasting of Zonte's Footstep wines or join us for our bar menu and drink specials on Fridays at the Flat, 5-course meals prepared by Chef Joe Boas on Saturday nights, Sunday's Roast and Red, or check out what else we have going on!

Had the Sunday Roast and Vikki's Choc bread and butter pudding.
The Sunday roast was excellent with all the trimmings and proper Yorkshire puddings with plenty of veg and roast potatoes the beef just melted in your mouth perfectly cooked and Vikki's twist on the Choc bread and butter pudding was delicious.
The staff were really friendly and helpful, I will definitely come back here again without a doubt highly recommended, thank you Vikki and staff for an enjoyable Sunday afternoon on my birthday.

Enjoyed a fantastic Friday night meal here courtesy of Chef Joe. What an absolute delight in every aspect. Beautifully cooked and presented food and excellent service from Ethan. Would highly recommend The General!

Lovely wine bar, went in with a group of 11 on the 12/3 for a wine tasting and they were very accommodating.
Staff were so nice and manager is so bubbly and friendly.
They even gave me a free wine tasting for my birthday which was so lovely!

Need another star so we can rate it 6 stars! Excellent service and food was top notch. You'll struggle to find a main + dessert and a glass of wine this cheap. Well worth the drive.

Just dropped in for a drink, and have to say what a fabulous atmosphere, great staff and awesome wine selection! What more can you ask for! A must visit if your heading to McLaren Vale. Victoria was an amazing host super friendly and welcoming, our Expresso Martini's were just what we needed. Will definitely be back!!
