Wombat Forest Vineyard

Wombat Forest Vineyard

189 Springhill Rd, Denver VIC 3461

Wombat Forest Vineyard and Winery is a surprise package nestled on the edge of the Wombat State Forest and only fifteen minutes from Daylesford. Their cellar door and courtyard have extensive forest views where visitors can enjoy a glass of wine and seasonal platters relaxing on the deck or by a wood fire.

Their winery produces handcrafted wines paying particular attention to detail. Reds are aged in French Oak barrels producing award-winning elegant cool climate wines. An extended ripening period enhances the fruit flavour and provides subtle tannins. The rich volcanic soils, natural springs, and Winter frosts are conducive to cool climate viticulture and wombats. The owners are passionate about the local area with its rich fauna and flora and pride themselves on using sustainable practices.

Their family business has expanded to include 'The Burrow Event Space' which is situated adjacent to the Winery. The Burrow is a modern take of a barn that opens up onto an expansive verandah with a dramatic forest backdrop providing an ideal location for special occasions. Twenty-three years later they are continuing to provide genuine country hospitality.

The place and surrounding was nice, the wines were good and we had a nice experience until it came time to pay. The wine tasting was $10 a head. All the wineries don't charge this fee if you purchase wine except for this winery. I indicated to them that I wanted to buy 4 bottles of wine but they were not going to waive the wine tasting fee. The owners of the business are stingy and it ruined the experience. Won't be going back there.

Update 18/6/22 - The owner has responded nearly 11 months after my original review. This typifies their service. I was committed to purchasing a number of bottles of wine at the time and the owner certainly did not at any stage advise me that the wine tasting fees would be waived with a purchase of a dozen bottles of wine. I note with interest other reviews made by people about the ordinary service. I agree and felt that the owners were arrogant based on my own experience. The owners should decide if they are in the business of selling tastings or selling bottles of wine.

Stopped in for a wine with my partner and was immediately welcomed by the warm and friendly staff. Wine is very nice, particularly enjoyed the Shiraz. Absolutely stunning venue and surroundings. We have been back several times since, and always have a great experience at the Burrow. Highly recommend!

This has got to be one of the best places to spend an afternoon in the Macedon Ranges. The venue it's self is incredible. All the timber buildings blend beautifully against the bush surrounds. It's family run and all the staff are invested in making everyone feel welcome and relaxed.

I always take my kids, 3 and 5, and they're always made to feel welcome too. There's a beautiful grass area set up with games, they also have the freedom to toddle around and explore without being expected to sit in their seats.

The live music is always fantastic, and then there's the wine! Highly recommend.

Found this spot by accident today. Stunning views and excellent service, they even assisted us with recommendations for local lunch spots! Thanks again

We were blown away by this beautiful venue hidden on the forest edge. Turning in expecting a quaint cellar door we were greeted warmly by the staff and they quickly turned to our children to point out a huge kangaroo grazing in the below paddock. Even though they had a consistent flow of visitors we were given a tour of 'the burrow' which is an modern, barn style wedding venue hidden in the hill side with sprawling views of the wombat forest.
The kids enjoyed exploring the courtyard while us adults indulged if a wine tasting, even having the wine maker pop over to tell us some of his secrets. The customer service, wine, venue and incredible flowers made our day and we can't wait to visit again.
