Sustainability is the credo behind Mountain Ridge Wines, which has a cellar door, restaurant, market garden and accommodation on its site at the base of Cullunghutti Mountain, about 8km south of Berry.

Views over Berry, the village of Coolangatta itself, and Cambewarra and Saddleback mountains form the backdrop to the winemaking here: wines are created from estate-grown grapes, but also with grapes sourced from sister estates Bawley Vale and Stone Cottage, and from districts like the Central Ranges and Hilltops.

Sample them at the cellar door on one of two tasting experiences (the Coast to Country Tasting or the Personalised Wine Flight), and make sure you take in the artwork on the labels - most of it created by artists from the Shoalhaven.

The onsite restaurant is open for both brekky and lunch, and chef Dan Gallo creates modern Australian food that might include blue swimmer crab cakes for the early birds, or a chargrilled sirloin with duck-fat hasselback potatoes and beetroot chips for the lunch lovers.

Mountain Ridge House is a generously proportioned home with 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. The flexible accommodation comfortably sleeps 10 guests with an optional queen size sofa bed to sleep a further two. The house features a newly installed kitchen, large fireplace, outdoor swimming pool, air-conditioning, and indoor and outdoor dining areas.
